FAQ

Questions parents ask

Where do the ratings come from?

Every rating is produced under the Chapter Owl Rating Standard — a published, versioned set of editorial rules. Evidence is gathered from permitted sources (publisher descriptions and book metadata), structured with the help of AI, and the final levels are computed by deterministic rules — never by AI guesswork. Human editors review and verify ratings, and “Chapter Owl Verified” marks the ones a person has fully checked.

What if a book isn’t rated yet?

You can request it in one tap. Requests drive our editorial queue, so the books families actually want get rated first. And where information is incomplete, the app says so honestly instead of guessing.

Does Chapter Owl tell me whether my child may read a book?

No — and that’s deliberate. It compares a book’s content against the limits you set and flags what you’d want to know. The decision is always yours.

What information do you store about my child?

As little as possible by design: a nickname, an age, and your content preferences. No last names, no birthdates, no photos. See our Privacy Policy.

Is it free?

During early access, yes. We’ll always be upfront about pricing before anything changes.
